GOP Says That Democrats Are Hacking Registration in Georgia
An investigation has been launched by the administration in a hack attack, which is allegedly conducted by Democrats, initiated by Brian Kemp who is Secretary of State in Georgia, against Stacey Abrams. It can be a game changer in the race for the seat on 6th Nov.
Just a couple of days before election, the news came from the office of Georgia Secretary of State, Brian Kemp, who is set to compete with Stacey Abrams toe to toe for the seat of governor. The investigation has been opened, targeting the Democratic Party in the state, for ‘failing in attempt to hack the state’s voter registration system.’ Democrats labelled it as a political stunt.
“After a failed attempt to hack the state’s voter registration system, the Secretary of State’s office opened an investigation into the Democratic Party of Georgia on the evening of Saturday, November 3, 2018,” Kemp’s office said in a statement. “Federal partners, including the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation, were immediately alerted.”
The details about the nature of the hack and means were not provided as well as any indication that how it might be linked to the Democratic party.
The questions were asked to the spokeswoman of the relevant office, Candice Broce, but she declined to comment on the matter. However, she did confirmed that the Democratic Party was under investigation for committing a “possible cybercrime.”
On the other hand, the executive director of Georgia Democratic Party, Rebecca DeHart, said that the so called investigation from Kemp was nothing but merely abuse of power from the seat of Secretary of State which is completely unethical. She further said that the allegations are completely false and it is nothing but a political stunt that Kemp tried to pull off just a few days prior to election which is one of the reasons why he can’t be trusted.
Kemp is set to contest for the governor seat closely with the Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams. As per the polls, Kemp is just one percentage point ahead of Abrams which is pretty much within the margin of error. Considering this, one can clearly see how fierce the fight will be for the seat in Georgia and Tennessee.
To bring into the notice, allegations were also put up on Kemp by Abrams, stating that he is falsely trying and intentionally purging voters and abusing the power to target minorities.
