Paul Manafort sentenced to 47 months in prison, far short of expectations
Paul Manafort, the former chairman of Trump Campaign is to be jailed four years for financial fraud in alliance with the Russian government in 2016. But the duration of punishment was expected to be more. The reaction of President Trump was stating that there was NO COLLUSION with Russia in this case.
Manafort had previously been sentenced to 25 years of jail due to other serious crimes and the punishment was declared to be “Just” by Judge T.S. Ellis. He had been taken in last year as he failed to pay taxes of millions of dollars on the income gained by the Ukrainian and for acting out frauds in banks and government because he was in the target of the federal investigators. The other federal judge will be announcing his sentence next week for being a witness and conspiring money laundering and illegal Ukrainian lobbying.
Despite the charges and stay in jail for 9 months due to them, Manafort did not react much neither did he show himself guilty to the crimes committed, this was even felt by the judge later. He did, however, mention that his family has suffered severely and that the media has been harsh towards his situation lately.
Manafort has handed over several properties to the government and still have to pay millions of fines an taxes, however, regardless he remains a rich man.
